In a defamation case brought against him by actor Manoj Bajpayee, film producer and actor Kamal Rashid Khan aka KRK has been issued an arrest warrant by the Indore district court for failing to appear.
Bajpayee sued Khan in 2021 because, he claims, Khan called him a drug addict in a series of tweets. Bajpayee’s attorney, advocate Paresh Joshi, said that on Thursday, the Judicial Magistrate First Class here issued an arrest warrant against Khan and set the next hearing in the case for May 10.
Khan, he said, had previously been issued bailable warrants for failing to appear in court. In an application, Bajpayee claimed that Khan was aware of the case against him but was not intentionally appearing to cause delay. Khan’s court argued that the case should be put on hold because Khan has appealed to the Supreme Court.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court denied Khan’s motion to dismiss the defamation charges against him on December 13, 2022. One of the Twitter handles in question, ‘KRK box office,’ from which the offending 2021 tweet originated, was allegedly “sold” to one Saleem Ahmed in October 2020, as Khan’s attorneys argued in the High Court. According to his lawyers, he never intended for anything he tweeted to be harmful to Bajpayee.
