Aditya Chopra recalls YRF getting a new lease of life with Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’

In the documentary series The Romantics, Aditya Chopra reflected on a period of low productivity during which his production house released flop after flop. He claims that they were revitalised thanks to ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi.
Aditya explained that he came to the conclusion that he would have to take responsibility for delivering a major box office hit for the company. He added that he went to London to write his story, which we saw in “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi,” because he wanted to ensure that it would be a smashing success. Everyone’s problem, he claimed, was why she wouldn’t recognise him. The movie’s premise wouldn’t hold water. This is where Shah Rukh Khan entered the picture.
More importantly, he disclosed that Shah Rukh Khan had accepted the role of Surinder/Raj. Even Anushka Sharma revealed that Adi was very secretive about her casting. Remembering back to when she signed on for that film, she realised she was only 19 years old. It was Adi’s first film, and she was forbidden from sharing the news with anyone. There was a strict policy of silence enforced even within the workplace. Such a revelation would have caused shock and awe if it had been made public. The director forbade the actress from even telling her family about the project.
In addition to revitalising the production banner, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi served as a tremendous springboard for Anushka’s career.
