Actor Satish Kaushik, who played such memorable roles as Calender in “Mr. India” and Pappu Pager, died on March 9. The actor had a heart attack. The actor’s best friend Anupam Kher led a prayer meet for the family this evening and also spoke to the press about Kaushik.
Originally scheduled for March 21, Anupam has announced today that a celebration in Satish’s honor will take place next month. That’s what he told me, “Despite the fact that we just finished up Satish’s prayer ceremony, he is still very much with us. Satish will appear whenever anyone expresses happiness or joy. I’ve spent the last few days searching for a photo of Satish that doesn’t feature his trademark grin, but to no avail. Please let me know if you find it. He was an advocate of spreading joy and laughter to those around you. The memorial service I was planning to hold for him tomorrow has been moved to next month.”
Kher continued by saying, “Because of the way he lived, his passing would be cause for celebration. I think it’s crucial that we honor his memory. Obviously, I will always be sad because he is gone.”
In the days since Kaushik’s death, speculation has grown that his death was not an accident. Kher commented on these rumors, saying, “I say we let the man go out with honor and refrain from further conjecture. He deserves to pass away with the same grace with which he lived. Thus, hopefully, today’s prayer meeting will put an end to these rumors.”
