Milind Gunaji says that his beard helped him land the character of Kajol’s fiance in the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jaayenge

The Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kajol film When it comes to Bollywood movies, Le Jaayenge is right up there with the best of them. Everyone still remembers each and every one of the characters, from Raj to Simran. One actor who missed out on a role in DDLJ was Milind Gunaji, who appeared alongside SRK in the film Devdas.
In a recent interview, Milind said that he was originally cast as Kajol’s fiance in the film but declined the part, allowing Parmeet Sethi to take the spotlight instead.
He said that when the producers of DDLJ called him for the part, they specifically requested that he have a clean shave. He claimed he had to keep his beard because he was in three or four movies that called for it. He went on to say that he was devastated to learn he would not be able to participate in the film for this reason.
During the same conversation, Milind explained that he had to turn down a role in the Mrityudaata film starring Amitabh Bachchan. Perhaps an incident occurred on the Virasat filming locations, he speculated, and the schedule had to be rearranged.
He also responded to rumours that an up-and-comer had refused to work with Amitabh Bachchan after the event. He claimed he wanted to set the record straight because he got along well with Big B.
Milind claimed to be waiting for Amitabh outside the Mehboob studio. He briefed Big B on the situation when he arrived. The famous person had then said, “Don’t think about it too hard.” I don’t believe the press since you are a terrific actor.
