Square Enix, always on the cutting edge of cool, recently revealed that the combined sales of its series titles for PC, consoles, and mobile devices have topped two million.

The first in the series of classic role-playing games was released on PC and mobile devices in the summer of 2021, with subsequent releases spaced out over the subsequent six months. The iconic games Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, and Final Fantasy VI are all included in this collection, which was released last month for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. Critics and fans alike have been effusive in their admiration of the new console’s early reports.

The games that established a genre are updated for current screens under the watchful eye of original artist Kazuko Shibuya, but the charming sprites and environments of their 8-bit and 16-bit incarnations are preserved. Composer Nobuo Uematsu has restored the audio, and there has been a new round of balancing changes and bug corrections made to the releases, addressing problems that have persisted for, in some cases, nearly four decades. The console releases of the games feature the original soundtracks for each game, as well as a “pixel font” that is easier on the eyes.

Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android users can now enjoy the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series.
