In an anniversary post on the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla Games revealed that the sales of the PlayStation sequel Horizon: Forbidden West have topped 8.4 million copies since its release in February 2022, bringing the total sales of the fantasy franchise to an impressive 32.7 million units.
The 32.7 million “sell-through” copies of Horizon Forbidden West, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Horizon Call of the Mountain are defined as “actually sold” to customers, though Guerrilla adds that “millions more” players have enjoyed Aloy’s adventures via subscription services like PlayStation Plus or via Sony’s Play at Home scheme, which offered Horizon Zero Dawn free of charge to all PlayStation owners during the first lockdown of t.

For Guerrilla Games’ director Jan-Bart van Beek, “all told, it’s a milestone we never imagined possible twenty years ago when we first started making games,” is an understatement. The fan response has been overwhelming, and we can’t thank the public enough for their unwavering devotion to the series. We Guerrillas are so grateful to see such consistent love for our work in the form of fan art and cosplay from the community at large. I just want you to know how impressed we are with your enthusiasm.
Van Beek also used the announcement to clarify rumours that future installments will feature Aloy, The Nora, and The Machines. After Aloy made some new friends, allies, and maybe even more in the recent Burning Shores DLC as she explored the overgrown ruins of Los Angeles, we can rest assured that we will be seeing much more of this wild ‘n’ wonderful world thanks to the positive reception to the Horizon franchise and the big bucks it has brought to Team Sony.
