In the most recent episode of Maniesh Paul’s podcast, Gulshan Grover, the Bad Man of Bollywood, revealed some shocking details about his acting career. In the past, he said, many people have paid movie studios to get him blacklisted from his role as the villain.
Recalling the time a film producer offered him the lead role in his film on the condition that he would not take on any negative roles until the production of this film was complete, he laughed. He claimed that his competitors in the business had pooled their resources to pay the producer to make such a move.
Not just one competitor, but several had already provided the film’s financing. But I had already turned down many film offers to play the hero before that one,” Gulshan said.
The actor went on to explain that he deliberately avoided leading roles, citing a film featuring Kamal Haasan, Padmini Kolhapure, etc., in which he was offered the part of Hassan.
I’m a villain not because I was cast off as a hero, but because it’s what I want to be. I hope to have a career in acting for the rest of my life, so I must pick the kinds of parts I want to play as I transition through the various stages of my life. And also, which are tough and challenging,” he added.
Gulshan’s next movie is Indian 2, directed by Kamal Haasan.
