We hate to bring you bad news first thing in the morning, but Team Cherry has just revealed that they will be delaying the release of Hollow Knight: Silksong beyond its original “Early 2023” projection. The sequel, which looks fantastic, is still in production for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

“Hey gang, just a quick update about Silksong,” tweeted Team Cherry marketing Matthew Gryphon. We hoped to get it out by the beginning of 2023, but work is still being done on it. The game’s growth and development have piqued our interest, and we’re eager to devote the necessary resources to making it the best it can be. As the release date approaches, we will provide additional information.

Hello, everyone, I have some news about Silksong to share.

Our original target deployment date was the first half of 2023, but work is still ongoing on the project. The game’s growth and development have piqued our interest, and we’re eager to devote the necessary resources to making it the best it can be.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, the sequel to the critically acclaimed bug-based adventure from 2017, was originally planned as downloadable content for the previous game before the sheer complexity of the project convinced developer Team Cherry to instead create a brand new game. Since then, it has been somewhat of a running jest among the community as the enthusiastic fans continue to wait for an official release date. There may be more sighs in response to this latest setback, but we know that when the time comes, Team Cherry will deliver.

In Hollow Knight: Silksong, you’ll join Hornet on her journey as she is held captive in the tumultuous realm of Pharloom, from which she eventually emerges as an ally. Hornet uses her acrobatic skills and lethal accuracy to try to escape the new world while discovering the truth about her abduction.

We are hard at work on bringing Hollow Knight: Silksong to PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
