Tector bested Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam and Bangladesh’s Najmul Hossain Shanto, both of whom were strong contenders.
Tector showed his mettle in a recently finished One-Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh by scoring his career-best 140 off of only 113 balls to help Ireland score a huge total in the first ODI of a three-match series. The series consisted of three matches. When his team was in a tough spot at 16-2 in the seventh over, the middle-order batter came to the plate at number four to face the pitch. In spite of this, by the time he was removed from the game at the conclusion of the 42nd over, he had already altered the tide of the match, scoring 45 runs off of 48 balls in the third One-Day International against Bangladesh.
“I’m delighted with the Award and would like to thank those who voted for me; however, cricket is a team sport first and foremost, so the Award is more of a reflection on the performances and progress of the Ireland Men’s squad,” Tector said. “I’m delighted with the Award and would like to thank those who voted for me.”I would not have been able to win this Award without the help of Heinrich Malan, Andrew Balbirnie, and the hard-working group of coaches and players that I work with.”Thanks to the ICC – but I’m sure you’ll understand that this will only be a brief moment of reflection as we have a crucial Qualifier starting in a matter of days, and our focus will be solely on that over the coming weeks,” the young batsman said as he closed his statement.
