While Jamie Lever, Johnny Lever’s daughter, attempted to imitate Deepika Padukone at the Oscars, many online viewers were not fooled

Deepika Padukone, an international star, led the Indian delegation on the red carpet at the 95th Academy Awards, where the country took home two statuettes: one for Best Original Song for “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR” and another for “The Elephant Whisperers,” a documentary short. Jamie Lever, daughter of Johnny Lever, wanted to honor Deepika after hearing the acclaim she received in India, so she imagined her at the Academy Awards as Johnny’s daughter. However, the internet was not persuaded by her impersonation.
On-screen, Jamie, posing as Deepika, can be heard saying, “I’m just taking it all in and feeling very excited. As an added bonus, I’m glad Ranveer isn’t here to steal the show; now is my chance.”
She then shifts gears to Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is displeased that she was not invited to the Oscars. The actress contacts Priyanka Chopra by phone and says, “When is it that I will have a chance to win an Oscar for this? This is so unfair, oh my god!” She also did impressions of Farah Khan and Kangana Ranaut.
While Jamie’s act had everyone laughing and praising her impersonations of Kareena, Kangana, and Farah, many online commenters pointed out that it is especially challenging to imitate Deepika’s personality. “Sorry but Deepika’s bilkul bhi accha nahi hai Rest u r brilliant as usual,” wrote one Instagram user. It’s hard to sound like Deepika, but you tried, said another user.
Deepika wore a black Louis Vuitton gown designed especially for her and a dramatic necklace by Cartier when she took the Oscars stage. She made the stage introductions for Naatu Naatu. The loud cheers from the audience forced her to pause at least three times. Additionally, she gushed about the song’s success on social media, emphasizing the fact that it is the first song from an Indian production to be nominated for an Academy Award. Deepika returned to Mumbai on Friday after her Oscars appearance, during which she represented India.
