We will miss you: Aamir Khan Productions remembers Lalitha Lajmi
Aamir Khan Productions said in a tribute to the late self-taught artist Lalitha Lajmi that her legacy will live on through the people she had an impact on. On Monday, Lajmi, 90, passed away. She was a pioneer in the portrayal of strong, independent Indian women in her art for decades.
There was a cameo appearance by the prolific artist in Aamir Khan’s film Taare Zameen Par (2007). Lajmi was the judge in the art competition won by Ishaan (Darsheel Safary), a young man who is both artistically gifted and dyslexic.

On Tuesday evening, the official Twitter account for the superstar’s eponymous production banner paid tribute to Lajmi.

Lajmi was the younger sister of renowned filmmaker Guru Dutt, and she often found visual inspiration in his work. In addition to acting, she also worked as a graphics artist in the 1985 Hindi film Aghaat.
The late artist had exhibitions at a variety of domestic and international locations, such as Chennai’s Appa Rao Gallery and Mumbai’s Tata Institute of Fundamental Research.
The Mind’s Cupboard, an exhibition of her work, is on view at Mumbai’s National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA).
