“Naatu Naatu,” performed by MM Keervani and Chandrabose, and featured in the film RRR, has won the Academy Award for “Best Original Song” at the 95th Annual Academy Awards, making history as the first Indian song in a Telugu production to win the category. The Elephant Whisperers, directed by Kartiki Gonsalves and produced by Guneet Monga, also took home the trophy for Best Documentary Short Film, double the country’s success.
Actor Hrithik Roshan gushed over both films on his Twitter account. After writing, he said, “That #Oscars95 moment was so monumentally proud and joyful for Indian Film. Sincere felicitations to the creators of The Elephant Whisperers, the year’s best short documentary, and to the members of Team RRR, whose song “NaatuNaatu” won the award for best original song. The best of luck to you all”
Guneet Monga, discussing The Elephant Whisperers on Instagram, said, “To have an Indian film win an Academy Award tonight is a momentous occasion. India’s Proudest Moment, Starring Two Women A message to all the ladies in the audience…. The future is here, and it’s daring. Go, then!”
