Navin Nischol often reflected on his brief celebrity and the brutality with which it was taken from him. He experienced bitterness and even philosophy as a result, but eventually he accepted his situation and moved on.
When the father is told he must pay a fee of 10 lakhs for his son, he holds his heart and passes out, which is a scene that Navin found particularly touching in the insurance commercial. It was Navin’s old adage, “That’s the way to go.” Surely, someone in the clouds could have heard him. He traveled in that direction.

Navin signed on for six films before his first, Sawan Bhadon, was even released, despite being a nervous newcomer. He was not making progress in his career with these assignments. Honoring his word, he decided to move forward with the production of those movies. They were able to take him down to the ground. No one would ever hire him if he tried. He would think for a while. They’ll have to come to me if they want me. He passed up high-profile opportunities. His success with Khosla Ka Ghosla prompted him to emerge from retirement, but he still didn’t look for work.
Singer Navin Nischol performed several hit songs for the film. Sawan Bhadon, directed by Mohan Segal, featured composer Sonik-Rafi-rendered Omi’s Kaan Main Jhumka Chaal Mein Thumka. With the Sawan Bhadon group, he had Kishore Kumar’s Chahe Purush Ho Chahe Naari in the film Woh Main Nahin (in which he played seven roles).

Navin sang “Simti Si Sharmayee Si” by Kishore Kumar in the film Parwana, in which Amitabh Bachchan portrayed the antagonist. This Madan Mohan tune topped the charts. Probably the most well-known tune by Navin Nischol is Madan Mohan’s Tum Jo Mil Gaye Toh Yeh Lagta Hai from the film Hanste Zakhm.

As Mukesh, Navin sang the heartbreaking Jeevan Bhar Dhunda Jissko Woh Pyar Mila Par Nahin Mila in Nadaan (he had just replaced Parikshit Sahni at the last minute).

One of Kishore Kumar’s most well-known love ballads, Rat Kali Ek Khwab Mein Ayee, was lip-synced by Navin in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Buddha Mil Gaya, and his song Tu Na Mili Toh Hum Jogi Bann Jayenge was featured in the smash hit Victoria 203. (the third biggest hit of the film after Do Bechare Bina Sahaare and Thoda Sa Thehro)

A failure at the box office, Kishore’s serenade to Raakhee Gulzar on behalf of Navin, Maine Kuch Khoya Hain Maine Kuch Paaya Hai Tere Pyar Mein, was a smash hit.

Finally, an obscure tune that serves as the centerpiece of Navin Nischol’s musical legacy: The song goes, “Humne Tanhayee ko mehboob banaa rakha hai, raakh ke dher mein sholon ko.”

Jagjit Singh’s rendition of “Dabaa Rakha Hai” from Navin’s best film “Ek Baar Kaho” will live on in infamy.
