Sonic Origins Plus Adds Amy As Playable Character, Game Gear Games, And More This June

In honor of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 25th anniversary, Sonic Origins was released last year, bringing together the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, along with some additional content.

There are some drawbacks, but overall, this collection is still the greatest official way to play those vintage Genesis and Sega CD games 30 years after their first releases.

A year after the collection’s initial release, Sega has announced Sonic Origins Plus, a premium upgrade that will be released alongside the set.

Sonic Origins Plus is an expansion to last year’s Sonic Origins, which featured the likes of Classic Mode, Anniversary Mode, widescreen compatibility, more story animations, a virtual museum, and more.

The first twelve Sonic games for the Game Gear are included in Sonic Origins Plus.

In addition, Amy is now a playable character in both Genesis and Sega CD games. (Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD). Knuckles will be playable in Sonic CD, fixing one of the most baffling omissions from the original Sonic Origins release.
