Before today’s spacewalk, four members of Expedition 69 are finishing up their last preparations in order to continue strengthening the power generation system of the International Space Station (ISS).Following the successful transport of the SpaceX Dragon craft to the International Space Station (ISS), four members of Expedition 69 are currently preparing for a spacewalk to install the solar array that was to improve the ISS’s power system.

At 9:15 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Friday, NASA Flight Engineers Woody Hoburg and Stephen Bowen will begin a spacewalk to install a roll-out solar array on the station’s starboard truss structure. During the spacewalk, the engineers will switch the extravehicular mobility units (EMUs) of their spacesuits to battery power.Before beginning the spacewalk, the two astronauts prepared their EMUs and their spacewalking equipment inside of the Quest airlock, which is where they will exit the space station and enter the vacuum of space.

Flight Engineers Frank Rubio of NASA and Sultan Alneyadi of the United Arab Emirates accompanied the two astronauts for a final evaluation of their spacewalking operations and the protocols for robotic support.According to the article, Rubio and Alneyadi will provide Bowen and Hoburg with support from within the station on Friday. Bowen and Hoburg will also receive assistance from within the station.On Wednesday, ground engineers used a remote commanding system to instruct the Canadarm2 robotic arm to detach solar panels from Dragon and attach them to trusses in preparation for the installation spacewalk on Friday.
