Forspoken Developer Luminous Productions Merging Into Square Enix

Square Enix
Square Enix has announced the acquisition of Luminous Productions, the studio responsible for developing Forspoken, following the game’s release earlier this year.
Given that Luminous Productions already operated as a studio under S this is an odd announcement. At this point, however, it appears that Luminous Productions as a standalone company will cease to exist, and its name will no longer appear on any future releases.
According to the press release, “the merger is part of the Company’s efforts to strengthen the competitive prowess of the Group’s development studios.” “it is in possession of a vast library of intellectual property (IP) and content, including a number of AAA-level high-definition (HD) video games that were created in-house. Meanwhile, Luminous Productions Co., Ltd. has not only the ability to create AAA titles, but also the technical knowledge to create things like game engines. The Group’s capacity to produce high-definition video games will be bolstered by the merger.”
The developers at Luminous Productions are still employed; they have simply been integrated into the company as a whole. The reason why is still a mystery. Possible cause: Forspoken’s lukewarm reception upon its initial release.
