Since Srijit Mukherji teased his fans with a post suggesting he was working on a desi adaptation of the world’s most beloved and followed detective with a global broadcast company, rumors have been circulating. Srijit wrote, “The Game is afoot!!!” alongside a photo of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock on the popular show. Srijit’s post strongly suggested a desi avatar of Holmes, though it left his followers wondering if he was referring to any particular Indian detective. Despite Srijit’s silence on the matter, it has been reported that the detective series will be filmed in several secret locations in Bengal.
There have been rumors that Rasika Duggal and Ranvir Shorey have been cast in key roles for this series, and sources say that Mukherji’s adaptation of Sherlock Holmes is likely to throw up some more surprises, including the casting of a certain iconic singer. Among Srijit’s many undertakings is the highly anticipated Padatik, which stars the sensational Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury as the legendary filmmaker Mrinal Sen.
