Polygon has reported that a video game based on the popular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic novel The Last Ronin is in development.

The information was revealed in an interview with Paramount Global senior vice president of games and emerging media Doug Rosen, which was published on Polygon. Rosen claims that the forthcoming video game, The Last Ronin, will be an action role-playing game with a Norse theme, much like the God of War series. The game’s tone will be serious, in keeping with the story it’s based on. There is no known developer attached to the game, and its release is still years away.

In 2020, IDW released a five-issue miniseries titled The Last Ronin. In this dystopian future New York, three of the four turtles have been eliminated. The identity of the lone surviving turtle is revealed at the end of the first issue (spoiler alert!) and he immediately dons a black mask and sets off on a mission of vengeance, combating criminals with the help of his siblings’ weapons.

If you haven’t read the story, you’re missing out, but we’re looking forward to the video game adaptation. In the same interview, Rosen also says that Paramount is interested in developing TMNT games for both kids and adults.

The release of the popular beat ’em up Shredder’s Revenge last year, the throwback Cowabunga Collection, a Shredder-themed Call of Duty pack, and a new animated picture in theaters this August have all contributed to the Turtles’ recent revival.
